US Senators Bob Menendez and Chris Van Hollen are calling for President Donald Trump to address the issue of Varosha in Cyprus. In a letter to the White House, US senators are urging the US president to contact as soon as possible Recep Tayyip Erdogan to seek a reversal of the decision.
In this letter, the US senators want to express their deep concern over Turkey’s intention to open Varosha beach in Cyprus in breach of United Nations resolutions and long-standing US policy.
They urge the US president to work through the UN Security Council to ensure the implementation of the adopted resolutions regarding Varosha.
They claim that the United States in cooperation with the EU must take the lead in condemning these acts. They also claim that the United States must also lead UN initiatives to implement the resolutions on Varosha.
