Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he welcomed the NATO statement confirming Ukraine’s possible membership in the military alliance.
The Zelensky government has called on NATO to speed up Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization through a Membership Action Plan. Earlier, he said he wanted a clear answer from US President Joe Biden on whether to give Ukraine such a plan.
“NATO leaders confirmed that Ukraine will become a member of the Alliance & the MAP is an integral part of the membership process,” posted the Ukrainian president on his social media.
Commend @NATO partners' understanding of all the risks and challenges we face. NATO leaders confirmed that ?? will become a member of the Alliance & the #MAP is an integral part of the membership process. ?? deserves due appreciation of its role in ensuring Euro-Atlantic security
