The warm welcome of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Karyes

The warm welcome of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Karyes

The official reception of the Ecumenical Patriarch on Mount Athos took place yesterday afternoon in Karyes. Patriarch Bartholomew was welcomed with all the church honours provided. Everything went smoothly and the circles that tried in the past days to give rise to a climate of unrest were contradicted.

The members of the Holy Community and the abbots or representatives of the abbeys of the monasteries, as well as numerous monks and believers were present at the official reception of the Patriarch in the capital of Mount Athos.

The only exception was Constamonitou Monastery, as neither the abbot nor the representative or any of their substitutes went to Karyes. The Greek Government was represented by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonis Diamataris, and the new Civil Governor of Mount Athos, Athanasios Martinos, was also present.

After the official reception in the Holy Community, Patriarch Bartholomew visited the monastic quarters (Konakion) of the canonical brotherhood of the Esfigmenou Monastery.

The Ecumenical Patriarch traveled from Thessaloniki on Saturday afternoon and the first stop of his trip was Xenophontos monastery, where on Sunday morning he presided over the Divine Liturgy for the 200 years since the construction of the new Katholikon of the monastery.

Today, Monday, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will visit the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi, the Skete of St. Andrew and the Athonias Ecclesiastical Academy in Karyes. On Tuesday, the last day of his trip to Mount Athos, the Patriarch will visit the Monastery of Pantokrator and the Skete of Prophet Elijah.
