Pope Francis, accepting, in accordance with the Canon Law of the Catholic Church, the resignation of Archbishop Ioannis Spiteris due to reaching the retirement age, approved the appointment as the new Archbishop of Corfu, Zakynthos – Kefallinias, of the 47 years old Georgios D. Altouvas of the Vicars of the Holy Archdiocese of Catholics of Athens.
“I am sure that our newly elected Bishop will enrich our two ecclesiastical provinces with the gifts given to him by the Lord for the good of the Church and at the same time, in community with the whole flock, will be a point of reference and unity. His young age will be another factor that, in cooperation with everyone and especially with the priests, will be something new and beautiful for our two local Churches” said in his statements the outgoing Archbishop Ioannis Spiteris of Corfu, Zakynthos – Kefallinias.
According to information from ANA-MPA, the ordination of the new Archbishop will take place on November 14 at the Cathedral of St. Dionysios in Athens, while his enthronement will take place in Corfu, on November 22 at the Cathedral of Saint Jacob and Saint Christopher.
