With the proper ecclesiastical order, the late Geron Metropolitan Ioakeim of Nikomedeia was promoted to eternity, from the Patriarchal Church, on Thursday of Bright Week, April 20, 2023.
On Thursday morning, the Paschal Divine Liturgy took place, presided over by Geron Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi.
Then, at 11 am, the funeral service was held, presided over by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, assisted by the Metropolitans:
Geron Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi, Geron Metropolitan Dimitrios of Princes’ Islands, Metropolitan Apostolos of Miletus, Metropolitan Meliton of Philadelphia, Metropolitan Irinaios of Myriophytos and Peristasis, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Myra, Metropolitan Theoleptos of Iconium, Metropolitan Stephanos of Kalliopolis and Madytos, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Kydionia, Metropolitan Job of Pisidia, Metropolitan Amphilochios of Adrianoupolis, Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, Metropolitan Andreas of Forty Churches and Metropolitan Ioakeim of Bursa.
The mourning of the Mother Church was offered by Geron Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon and Metropolitan Maximos of Sylivria.
The Eulogy was delivered, according to the Church order, by Deacon Bosporios, Undersecretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod.
Present also in prayer were, Archbishop Nektarios of Anthidon, Commissioner of the Holy Sepulcher in Constantinople, Bishop Adrianos of Halicarnassus, Bishop Kassianos of Aravissos, Bishop Benjamin of Trallee, Bishop Smaragdos of Daphnousia and Bishop Paisios of Xanthoupolis, clerics of the Patriarchal Court, of the Holy Archdiocese of Constantinople and of the adjacent Holy Metropolises, but also from abroad, Archons of the Holy Great Church of Christ, Christodoulos Lazaris, Ambassador of Greece to Turkey, Georgia Sultanopoulou, Consul General in Constantinople, relatives of the deceased, leaders of the Community, Delegations of teachers and students of Greek schools, and many believers.
The burial of the late Hierarch took place in the Cemetery of Saint Ignatius of Chalcedon.
