The first crematorium in operation in Greece

The cremation of corpses in Greece started on September 30, according to an official presentation by the board member of the Ritsona Crematorium and president of the Greek Cremation Society, Antonis Alakiotis.

The effort to build a crematorium in Greece began in 1996, while the current law was adopted 13 years ago. Since then, a series of amendments was necessary to enable the construction of a private crematorium.

The legislation provides for periodic controls by the Region for the environmental impacts. For gaseous pollutants the inspection will be every six months.
