Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa welcomed the US Deputy Ambassador to Cairo, Nicole Shampaine, as well as the Minister of Public Relations of the Embassy, Lauren Lovelace, in the presence of the Patriarchal Commissioner of Alexandria, Metropolitan Narcissus of Pelusium, and Bishop Nicodemus of Nilupole, on March 2, 2022.
In the person of the Ambassador, the Patriarch greeted US President Joe Biden. The meeting took place in a very warm atmosphere, with both sides discussing issues of common interest and concern. The Patriarch referred to the very good relations of the United States with the Patriarchate of Alexandria, as well as the help it provides in his work.
The central topic of the discussion was the war situation between Russia and Ukraine, with the Patriarch of Alexandria condemning Russia’s actions and expressing his sorrow for the victims of the war, as well as for the Russian Church’s previous non-canonical intrusion in Africa. He did not fail to refer to the experience of ten years of his stay in Odessa.
In turn, the Ambassador, after thanking the Patriarch for his hospitality and love, referred to President Biden’s special interest in the criticality of the situation and stressed the need for unity that should govern everyone in this difficult period.
Finally, the Ambassador and the staff accompanying her were guided to the Patriarchal Palace and the Archaeological Museum.
