The Co-Chair of the Board of Shareholders of the COVAX Mechanism and MEP of Renew Europe, Dr. Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, will have a meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew tomorrow in Constantinople.
Zacharopoulou is expected to discuss issues related to global health and the COVAX mechanism, whose mission is to ensure equal access to vaccines against Covid-19.
To date, approximately 69 million doses of vaccine have already been distributed in 125 countries and the goal is to distribute 2 billion doses by the end of 2021, which should be sufficient to protect vulnerable and high-risk individuals and workers at the forefront of global health, the COVAX Co-Chair said in a statement, noting that “we are still a long way from that goal due to global supply problems and the dramatic situation in India”.
Dr. Chrysoula Zacharopoulou was elected Co-President of COVAX last April.
