On Monday, October 3, Archbishop Makarios of Australia visited successively the Consulate of Greece in Perth and the St Andrews Aged Care of the Greek Community of Western Australia.
During the visit to the Greek Consulate, the Archbishop and his entourage, consisting inter alia of Bishops Elpidios of Kyanes and Aimilianos of Meloa, the Consul of Greece in Perth, Georgia Karasiotou, welcomed him.
The two sides had a constructive discussion, in a spirit of cordiality, on issues of common interest, primarily concerning the needs of the Greek Diaspora in Western Australia.
The Archbishop and the Consul of Greece confirmed the excellent cooperation between the institutions they represent, while at the end of the meeting they exchanged commemorative gifts.
During his visit to the premises of the St Andrews Aged Care, Archbishop Makarios was warmly welcomed by the President of the Greek Community of Western Australia, Pavlos Afkos, as well as by executives and members of the staff of the St Andrews Aged Care.
He was followed by a guided tour of the plant’s premises, during which he had the opportunity to meet the elderly who live there. With great joy and emotion, the Archbishop embraced each and every one of the residents of the St Andrews Aged Care and devoted sufficient time to speak personally with each and every one of them, as well as to sing together. For their part, the elderly reciprocated with warm smiles, obviously moved by the meeting they had with Archbishop Makarios.
