Τalks begin between Azerbaijan and the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh today in the Azerbaijani city of Yevlakh after the military victory of Baku to regain control of the enclave.
Footage by the official Azerbaijani news agency Azertag show six men in civilian clothes around a table negotiating the reintegration of the Armenian-dominated territory into Azerbaijan.
The AFP states that the representative of Nagorno-Karabakh, David Melkumia, is among them.
A convoy of vehicles had previously arrived at the negotiation site in Yevlakh, 295 km west of the Azerbaijani capital, followed by a vehicle flying a Russian flag and having Russian army plates.
Russia has had a peacekeeping troop mission in Nagorno-Karabakh since late 2020.
At the same time, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated Ankara’s “full support” to Baku during a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev, who shared with him “information” regarding the “current situation”, the Turkish presidency announced.
According to the latest report by the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Azerbaijani military operation, which ended yesterday, Wednesday, at noon, within 24 hours, killed at least 200 people and injured 400. The Russian Defense Ministry said two Russian soldiers were killed on Wednesday when their vehicle was under attack.
