Sunday, April 14, 2024, the Detroit Greek Independence Day Parade took place in Greektown, Detroit, Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit, Metropolis clergy, Orthodox Christian faithful, Hellenes, and Philhellenes gathered and marched to commemorate 203 years of Greek Independence and mourn the fiftieth year of illegal Turkish occupation in Cyprus.
Various local and church organizations, such as GOYA and AHEPA, attended the parade. The day began with Doxology at the historic Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Detroit.
The streets of Greektown were packed with people. Young and old were dressed in traditional Greek costumes, and various groups performed traditional Greek dances. Even a model Trojan horse passed onlookers! This was the 22nd Detroit Greek Independence Day Parade.
It was a magnificent celebration of Greek heritage.
