Serbia does not intend to impose sanctions on Russia, as the President Alexander Vučić reported. He made an announcement at a press conference regarding the conclusions of the National Security Council meeting that examined the developments in Eastern Europe and determined Serbia’s position.
In the text presented by Vučić, Russia’s invasion on Ukraine is not condemned. Mild expressions are used in this paragraph, obviously, so as not to offend Russia.
“The Republic of Serbia supports the respect for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and considers very wrong the fact that Russia disrupts its territorial integrity,” as mentioned in the text of the conclusions.
In a question asked by a journalist, if he could use the word “condemn” for the Russian invasion on Ukraine, the Serbian president refused to do so and referred to the content of the text issued by the National Security Council.
One of the conclusions is also that “Serbia respects the territorial integrity of each country and believes that the change of borders can only be done in accordance with international law.”
