Russia considers the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea to be the cornerstone of the international maritime regime, posted the Russian Embassy in Greece on Twitter.
“Russia’s position as a permanent member of the UN Security Council is a position of principle. “We consider the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea to be the ‘cornerstone’ of the international maritime regime,” posted the Russian Embassy in Greece on Twitter in a statement. It specified, “The Convention provides expressly for the sovereign right of all States to establish the breadth of its territorial sea up to 12 nautical miles and lays down the principles and working methods for delimiting the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The same holds true for the Mediterranean.”
