Works have been completed to rebuild the wider area of the Greek Orthodox monastery of Saint Catherine of Sinai under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities.
The projects include complete landscaping of the surrounding area, improvement of the road network leading to the Monastery and Mount Moses, creation of larger parking spaces for tourist buses and cars, as well as installation of an electronic security system.
These works aim to increase visitors to this sacred site that houses the skull of St. Catherine of Alexandria, as well as the famous mosaic of the Transfiguration in the monastery’s cathedral.
For Egypt, St. Catherine of Sinai is one of the most important landmarks of the country’s monuments and always receives special prominence in all the tourist exhibitions the country participates in.
