The General Assembly of the Conference of European Churches (CEC), an organization made up of 114 Orthodox, Protestant, Anglican, and Old Catholic churches on the continent, opened in Tallinn, Estonia, on Wednesday.
The theme of this year’s edition – the 16th one – is “Under God’s blessing – shaping the future”. The hosts are the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Orthodox Church of Estonia.
The representative of the Romanian Patriarchate at the event is the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan Iosif of Western and Southern Europe. Aurelian Iftimiu, Coordinating Patriarchal Advisor and Director of the Romanian Patriarchate’s Basilica News Agency, also participates.
The General Assembly takes place every five years. The organization was founded in 1959, after the Second World War, to work for healing and peace.
Together with its ecumenical partners, CEC represents over 380 million European citizens in the continent and aims to be the voice of faith in dialogue with public policymakers.
