The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, is in quarantine after coming in contact with a case of COVID-19.
As reported by RIA news agency, the 73-year-old Patriarch of Moscow stated that he could not participate in the prayers with his congregation due to medical instructions to remain isolated.
In his statement, posted on the church’s website, did not mention if he had any symptoms.
Russia also announced 11,493 new cases of COVID-19 today, slightly less than the country’s daily record during the pandemic, bringing the total number of cases to 1,260,112.
Officials say 191 deaths from Covid-19 have been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the official death toll to 22,056.
Russia reported 11,656 cases on May 11, the largest number in a single day.
