Following the Ecumenical Patriarch’s outright refusal to grant autocephaly to the Church of Montenegro and his explicit statement that the only canonical Church in Montenegro was the Metropolis of Montenegro and the Littoral of the Serbian Orthodox Church headed by Metropolitan Amfilohije, Patriarch of Jerusalem expressed support to the Metropolitan of Montenegro.
Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem sent a letter to Metropolitan Amfilohije in which he regretted not being able to send Archbishop Makarios of Qatar to Montenegro, due to pastoral duties, in order him to give to the Metropolitan of Montenegro the message of support by himself.
The Patriarch of Jerusalem also stated in his letter that the Metropolitan of Qatar would pay a visit to the Metropolitan of Montenegro at the earliest opportunity, in order to strengthen the Metropolis.
