The Minister of Diaspora and Immigration Policy of Egypt, Nabila Makram, welcomed Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa.
Welcoming the Primate of the African Orthodox Church, Makram stressed that the Patriarch was the first official to meet in 2018, receiving his own personal support for the program for Egyptians “NOSTOS – Return to the Roots” between Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, and thanked him for his contribution to this issue.
On his part, Patriarch Theodore stressed how important it was for him and the Patriarchate of Alexandria to contribute to the excellent initiative of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi “A Decent Life Plan,” which is a program for a better and more dignified life for the development of the run-down villages of the Egyptian countryside, especially in those areas of the country where society and the poor are in need.
Patriarch Theodore stressed that in this effort he would have the practical support of Greece and Cyprus.
“Egypt is my second home and I look forward to providing health support to our children in the countryside and in areas in need,” said the Alexandrian Patriarch, adding that he looked forward to working with the Egyptian authorities on this great cause. He also expressed his desire to extend a helping hand to the people of villages and areas in need in Egypt, especially in the field of health, through the establishment of medical centers, health units, and hospitals for the treatment of cancer and heart disease, and especially for the younger generation.
On her part, Minister of Diaspora Nabila Makram warmly thanked Patriarch Theodore for this initiative and support of the program of Egyptian President el Sisi to strengthen the Egyptian countryside, describing the Primate of the Alexandrian Church as “a great Patriarch,” a man who serves humankind.
The Patriarch of Alexandria during yesterday’s meeting with the Minister of Diaspora was accompanied by the Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis, and the Abbot of the Monastery of St. Georgios of old Cairo, Damaskinos.
