It was a moment charged with emotion when the Patriarch of Alexandria thanked Greece for its support, addressing the Consul General Athanasios Kotsionis.
Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria referred to the vice-president of the Greek Community of Alexandria, Andreas Vafiadis, and he sent his greeting to the entire Greek parish.
The Patriarch of Alexandria also referred to the pandemic and spoke of the big number of deaths it had already caused throughout Africa. He said that he was aware of the great upheaval, as he was constantly informed by the local Hierarchs of the Mission of the Church of Alexandria.
“It is a great plague that afflicts humanity. I wish from the bottom of my heart and I hope that, as soon as we enter the new year 2021, the pandemic will belong to the past,” he stressed.
In addition, Patriarch Theodore II pointed out: “I am sure that, thanks to the vaccination, everything will pass little by little. Life goes on.” “Life is a river that flows. Life is a light you want to see. Life is the sun that warms you and you want to be warmed up. We never love the cold of death,” he added.
“I pray and hope that 2021 will lead us to a new world, free from the pandemic of 2020,” concluded the Head of the African Orthodox Church.
Finally, Patriarch Theodore, as every year, sang the traditional New Year carols and then he cut the Vasilopita.
“The Patriarchate of Alexandria is the nest and refuge of all the peoples and languages of Africa. Let us hope that 2021 is blessed and free from the pandemic of 2020 “, concluded the Patriarch.
