Today, Sunday, October 31, 2021, Ochi Day was celebrated with feelings of national pride and religious fervor in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
The solemn Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and the official Doxology at the Cathedral of Saint Frumentius were officiated by Metropolitan Daniel of Axum, in the presence of the Representative of Greece in Ethiopia Vasiliki Skalistira, who read the message of Director of Consular Office, Olga Tzortzatou, the President of the Greek Community of Addis Ababa, Dimitrios Sykas, the President of the Hellenic Sports Association “Olympiakos,” Athanasios Roussos, the Headmasters of the Greek Schools of the Community and the Community High school, teachers, students and many faithful Orthodox expatriates and Ethiopians.
The Metropolitan in his speech conveyed the paternal love and the wishes of the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, while referring to today’s anniversary focusing on the important messages to look forward with hope to the future of the ecumenical Greek community.
After the official Doxology, a memorial service was held in the courtyard of the church in front of the temporary monument of the fallen and then students of our schools recited anniversary poems and songs.
After the completion of the religious events, a festive reception was held by the Greek Community to all those present.
