On December 22, 2022, in a warm and festive atmosphere, with the presence of Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, at the reception hall of the Parish of the Presentation of the Lord, in Coburg, Melbourne, the Christmas celebration of the “Daily Bread” program took place, which is implemented in the Archdiocesan District of Northcote to support our vulnerable and needing fellow human beings.
The coordinator Sofia Lekka thanked Bishop Evmenios for his presence and all the volunteers of the program who were present, while she spoke about the purpose and “beautiful” journey of this charity activity.
Then, Lekka offered the lectern to the Parish Priest of the Coburg Parish, Father Leonidas Ioannou, who in turn thanked Archbishop Makarios of Australia for his blessing and support for the wonderful work of the “Daily Bread” program, as well as Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, the Greek Welfare Centre of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia for their undivided support and cooperation, and of course all the volunteers who are the “soul” of the program.
Afterwards, Bishop Evmenios offered some words, while he also conveyed the wishes of Archbishop Makarios of Australia and congratulated the Parish of The Presentation of the Lord for the initiative, and for the perfect coordination Sofia Lekka. Bishop Evmenios spoke about the spirit of Christmas and the love that people need even more so these days.
Finally, the moment when a participant in the program shared his experiences was rather touching, noting that “beyond food, we enjoy many more and valuable things, such as love, support, and compassion.”
