Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos gave a speech under the title “From Afxentiou and the vision of the Union to the struggle for preventing Turkification. Need for nationwide alertness”, in the Town Hall of Papagou-Holargos.
The speech was held during events dedicated to the hero of the Cypriot struggle, Grigoris Afxentiou.
Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos referred in total to the course of Cyprus and its history throughout the periods, highlighting the threat of Turkey, which continues daily to challenge the rights of Greece and Cyprus by air and sea.
As he estimates Turkey’s objective is the occupation of the whole of Cyprus, and tries to achieve it in the following three ways.
First, with the Greek side accepting a solution that provides for the “abolition of the Republic of Cyprus”, then through colonization, and, finally, through intimidation, by giving the example of Imvros and Tenedos.
He also draws the attention on other issues that Greek diplomacy and foreign policy are facing, stressing that “if Cyprus falls, Greece will be ripped. Thrace, the Aegean, and Macedonia will be next.”
