Metropolitan Vasilios of Constantia and Famagusta submitted in person his signed letter expressing his interest in the forthcoming Archiepiscopal elections.
In his statements after the submission of his letter, the Metropolitan of Constantia said, among other things, that what he will personally wish for is for the Holy Spirit to elect the one who will be the appropriate Archbishop, who will lead the Church’s ship as a good shipowner and will face the waves that usually hit the Church in a difficult social, political, geopolitical environment, in order for the Church to respond and carry out its work and mission given to it by the Church’s founder himself, Jesus Christ.
Asked in relation to the issue of the Church of Ukraine, the Metropolitan of Constantia said that any decision of the Synod, which is taken by the majority of the Holy Synod was strong, “is mandatory for everyone”. “We can’t go backwards,” he added.
He noted that there is now a fact that the Church of Cyprus is committed to the recognition of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
Beyond that, the Metropolitan of Constantia continued, any problems exist “it is a matter of how each of us will contribute to their solution because this is also one of the important tasks that the elected Archbishop of Cyprus should pursue. That is, to contribute to the unity between the Orthodox Churches, which is indeed the basis on which we must work in order to achieve this goal.”
