Metropolitan Vasilios of Constantia and Famagusta said on a radio station in Cyprus that everyone should be thinking about the Church of Cyprus and how it will operate as part of the Cypriot society.
He added that in his view, the criterion for the election of a new Archbishop, shouldn’t be the relations of hierarchs with Russia or other states. At the same time, he wanted to make it clear that he does not accept suggestions from foreign centers.
The Metropolitan of Constance and Famagusta said on the issue of the separation of state and church, that the roles of the two are already distinct, noting however that it is fair and proper to consult the Church on issues such as the Cyprus issue.
“I am annoyed that the Church has not shown its interest in immigrants to date,” said Vassilios, stressing that, bearing in mind the parable of the good Samaritan, the Metropolis of Famagusta collects food from the hotels which it gives to immigrants who search in the garbage for food.
