Memory of Saint Theodotus of Ancyra

Memory of Saint Theodotus of Ancyra

The Church commemorates Saint Theodotus from Ancyra.

Saint Theodotus was a grain merchant and baker in Ancyra.

As a pious and merciful man, he distributed bread to the poor and often visited the prisoners, applying the Sunday words in the Gospel of Judgment.

This is because the Christian sees God Himself in the face of every human being. The pagan rage against Christians, however, manifested by drowning a group of young Christians in the waters of a lake.

At night, having the courage and warm faith in Christ, Saint Theodotus buried the young Christians’ relics from the lake.

Then the pagans ordered and tortured him and finally beheaded him, because he was a true and faithful Christian, thus receiving the crown of martyrdom.
