The Church commemorates Saint Patapius and Bishops Sophronius and Damianus of Cyprus.
Saint Patapius was born in Egypt. From a young age, he was distinguished for his prudence, moral integrity, respect for the elders, and devotion to the will of God.
When he grew older, he distributed his wealth to the poor and retired to the desert with prayer, study, and charity. To every weary traveler who passed by his cell, he offered rest, hospitality, spiritual instructions, and advice, useful for the salvation of his soul. Thus, Patapius’ reputation spread quickly and many people came to his cell to learn from his rich spiritual experience and listen to the beneficial teaching of the Holy Gospel.
After a while, Saint Patapius went to Constantinople to a sanctuary in Blachernae. Thanks to his humble and pure life, Saint Patapius was deemed worthy to perform miracles with the grace of the Holy Spirit. He reposed in the Lord while healing the sick.
