The Church commemorates the 1,003 Martyrs of Nicomedia. It also commemorates Saint Parthenius, Bishop of Lampsacus, and Saint Aprionus, Bishop of Cyprus.
Saint Parthenius came from Bithynia and was the son of the deacon Christopher, who raised his son in the Orthodox faith and tradition. He lived during the reign of Constantine. At a young age, he became a monk and devoted himself to prayer, spiritual practice and work.
His humbleness was appreciated by the bishop of Melitoupolis, who ordained him a priest. Later, the Metropolitan of Cyzicus, Ascholios, made him bishop of Lampsacus.
The city of Lampsacus was famous at that time for many fanatical pagans. However, with his virtuous life, his ethos, his wise words, and his miracles, the saint managed to convert many in Christianity. Thanks to his miracles, Saint Parthenius is now considered the protector and supporter of cancer patients.
