Today our Church honors the memory of St. Panagis Basias.
Saint Panagis Basias was born in Lixouri, Kefalonia, in 1801, and was the son of Michael Typaldos-Basias and Regina Delaporta. Because of his good economic condition, he received great theological and philosophical training and education.
He died peacefully, on June 7, 1888, and was listed in the list of recognized Saints of the Eastern Orthodox communion on February 4, 1986.
Many miracles have been testified before and after his death. The contemporary man of the postmodern era, who is studying the hagiologies that deal with the lives and legends of saints, is impressed that holiness is not a phenomenon of old times and past centuries, but God reveals, at any given time, persons who have exceeded their daily lives and have lived the presence of the Holy Spirit, by activating the gifts that are richly offered to everyone.
