The Church commemorates Saint Artemius the Great Martyr, who lived under the reign of Emperor Constantine the Great, Saint Gerasimus of Kefalonia and Venerable Matrona of Chios the Wonderworker.
Upon the take-over of power by Julian the Apostate and the beginning of fierce persecutions against the Church, Saint Artemius confessed his Christian faith before the king and even reprimanded him for his disrespect for the Holy Gospel. As a consequence, Saint Artemius was brutally tortured and eventually was martyred by sword.
With his intercession and innumerable signs of God, the Great Martyr Artemius is an example to be imitated since neither his status quo, nor the wealth and fame, nor even the love of relatives and life itself were able to cancel his decision to sacrifice himself for his love for Christ.
