On Monday, April 1, Archbishop Makarios visited the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
The Archbishop was warmly received by the Rector of the historic institution, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Professor Emmanuel Karageorgoudis.
During the meeting, which was held in an excellent atmosphere, issues of mutual interest were discussed, with emphasis on the possibilities of cooperation in the field of Education.
Archbishop Makarios provided his interlocutors with a comprehensive briefing on the pastoral and social work carried out by the Orthodox Church of the fifth continent, while he attached particular importance to the national role it plays through the operation of educational institutions throughout the Australian territory and through the implementation of actions and programs aimed at preserving the Greek language and strengthening the ties of the young people of the Greek Diaspora with the homeland.
At the end of the constructive discussion, it was stated by both sides the intention to develop close cooperation between the University of Athens and the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
