A Holy Synod will be convened very soon by the Archbishop of Cyprus, according to information that CNA got from the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus. At the Synod, all the issues that have been plaguing the church of Cyprus lately are expected to be brought to the table, with the issue of the commemoration of Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv taking precedence.
Meanwhile, as reported by sigmalive.com, the same sources emphasized that the claim that the Archbishop convened a Synodal Officiation on the occasion of his name day is completely unsubstantiated.
“The Archbishop never celebrated his name day with a synodal officiation, nor is a Synodal Officiation foreseen in this case. There is no custom so far for the Synodal Fathers to officiate with the Archbishop of Cyprus in his name day, except for his assistants and if another high priest comes then he allows him to participate. The rest always come to the formal lunch that he cites at noon”, they pointed out.
