Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis thanked Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for the solidarity he expressed to those affected by the recent natural disasters in Greece during their meeting at Maximos Mansion.
“Thank you again for the messages of support and love about the natural disasters that hit the country over the last month,” the prime minister said, pointing out that the Ecumenical Patriarch was one of the first to talk about the consequences of the climate crisis.
During the meeting, developments in the Middle East were discussed. The Prime Minister expressed concern, among other things, over the Christian population in the Holy Land and informed the Ecumenical Patriarch that the Greek government had contacted Israel and asked them to protect the Monastery of Saint Porphyrios in Gaza from strikes by the Israeli Armed Forces.
In addition, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew briefed the Prime Minister on the issues regarding the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his support for the social and charitable work of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou and the Director of the Prime Minister’s Diplomatic Office, Ambassador Anna-Maria Boura, also attended the meeting. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was accompanied by Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon.
