The topics of religious and pilgrimage tourism, as well as the renovation of the Monastery of the Holy Cross, were central to the discussion between Greek Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni and Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem during a meal held in his honor.
The dialogue primarily revolved around the potential for enhancing cooperation with the countries under the Patriarchate’s jurisdiction, particularly Jordan, which places significant emphasis on this form of tourism and actively promotes organized Christian religious tours.
Patriarch Theophilos highlighted the renovation plans for the Holy Cross Monastery in Jerusalem, the oldest monastery of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem. This historic and majestic building, proudly displaying the Greek flag, is set to be transformed into a higher education institution. Post-renovation, it will offer postgraduate studies and research opportunities in theology and the humanities. The Patriarch expressed his ambition for Greek involvement in bringing this plan to fruition.
In addition, the discussion included exchanging views on strengthening the overall Greek presence in the broader region through tourism.
