The Greek Government has set three political goals in its bid to protect the tourism sector in view of the imminent resumption of tourist activity.
The first aim is to keep the workers healthy, secondly, to be able to deal immediately and effectively with any Covid-19 cases among visitors to tourist destinations, especially on the islands, and thirdly, to protect jobs in the tourism sector.
In this context, careful preparation went into Thursday’s “Restart Tourism” event, during which the head of Rebranding Greece, Steve Vranakis, will present the national campaign that hopes to secure the largest possible slice of the visibly smaller global tourism pie for the country.
The event will be addressed by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who wants to strengthen his expanding influence on a European level and add new weapons to the country’s campaign, in order to substantially support the tourism sector, which is the flagship of the Greek economy.
Mitsotakis had made it clear that “the priority is to protect jobs. And to help industry professionals prepare their big counterattack in 2021. Because defending employment is a prerequisite for a return to growth. And massive job losses mean nothing other than an increase in inequality.”
