On 4 April 2024, with the blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, and under the guidance of Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, GO Fellowship Melbourne continued its series of talks under the title, Come and See: “We have found Him” (John 1:45).
The discussion attracted many attendees who engaged in questions about the topic: “What is the true meaning of the Cross?”, with a panel consisting of Bishop Kyriakos, Father Chris Dimolianis, and Father Panagiotis Zoumboulis.
The night began with Father Panagiotis summarising the power of the life-giving Cross throughout the history of the Church and in the lives of the saints.
Bishop Kyriakos explained the importance of carrying our Cross willingly as Christians and never distressing because God will always give us the means to carry our cross.
The panel then discussed with the audience how by following Christ’s example of humility, love, and sacrifice, the Cross opens up the kingdom of heaven to us.
The series, “Come and See”, will explore worship and life in the Orthodox Christian Church, with fortnightly talks every alternating Thursday at the parish of Sts Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene in Bentleigh.
The purpose of this series of talks is to engage the faithful and seekers of our Christian faith in the beauty, meaning, and symbolism of Orthodox Christian worship and how it unites heaven and earth.
