Minister of Education, Research and Religious Affairs, Kostas Gavroglou, gave an interview to ANA-MPA radio station, on the occasion of the new system of entrance examinations to Higher Education institutions.
Asked about the regulation of Church-State relations, the Minister stressed that “on Tuesday the Hierarchy shall convene and we hope that they shall opt to continue the dialogue on the issues of clergy payroll as well, which the Hierarchy refuses to discuss”.
Concerning the letter by the Rainbow Party to the University of Macedonia asking to include the teaching of “Macedonian” language in the curriculum of the Department of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies, Mr. Gavroglou replied that the ministry has received no such letter.
“We believe that these issues are to be discussed by the scientific community so as to see the different points of view. Some of these issues are not political”, he argued.
It should be reminded that the University of Macedonia replied to Rainbow Party that there is nothing to talk about and that it does not take instructions by any individual, representative body or political party as to the formation of the curriculum.
