During the recent Archpastoral visit of Archbishop Elpidophoros of America to Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Las Vegas, NV, Father John Hondros was elevated to Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne on Sunday, July 30, 2023.
He was presented with the cross of Hagia Sophia by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America who also conveyed the greetings and congratulations of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Father John is a 1986 graduate of Holy Cross School of Theology. He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in 1987 and has served the parishes of Holy Trinity Cathedral – Phoenix, AZ; Saint George – Eugene, OR; and Assumption – Seattle, WA. He has been serving as proistamenos at Saint John in Las Vegas for the past 21 years.
He has been married to Presvytera Maria (Brogolias) since 1987, and they have two children, Christopher (Darlene) who reside in Castro Valley, CA with their daughter Kassiani; and their daughter Marissa (fiancée Theodore Monk) who resides in Durham, NC.
