The fourth phase of the “NOSTOS – Return to the Roots” program was completed yesterday with the diaspora young people visiting the seat of the Parliament of Egypt in Cairo.
The young people from Greece and Cyprus visited the Egyptian House of Representatives, with the Egyptian Minister, Nabila Makram, the Ambassadors of Greece and of Cyprus, Nikos Garilidis and Homer Mavromatis respectively, attending the warm welcome by the President of the Egyptian Parliament, Hanafy El Gebaly, in the presence of other Egyptian officials.
Hanafy El Gebaly spoke about the work of the Egyptian Parliament and showed the Greek and Cypriot diaspora youth around the historic building, in the presence of the President of the Greek Community of Cairo, Christos Kavalis, and the Secretary-General of the Greek Community of Alexandria, Dimitris Kavouras, and the sponsor of the program, the Egyptian from El Ibrahimiya, Eric Adam.
The Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Nabila Makram, stated that “the ‘NOSTOS – Return to the Roots’ initiative is the best way to bring the cultures and peoples of Egypt, Greece and Cyprus even closer,” describing as “model” this program that unites the expatriates of the three countries and which could be an example to be imitated for other countries.
And this can become even more important, as Nabila Makram said, with this dialogue between the second and third generations of expatriates of the three countries,” especially now “when we face common challenges that require cooperation and unity to overcome them, to ensure the prosperity of the peoples with the contribution of our three countries.”
On his part, the president of the Egyptian Parliament expressed his great joy to welcome Greek and Cypriot diaspora youth, praising the three countries for implementing this great initiative.
“Continuous contacts at all levels, and the summits of the three countries, Egypt, Greece and Cyprus, are a unique model of regional cooperation with multiple dimensions,” said the president of the Egyptian Parliament.
