Former Maryland Sen. Paul Sarbanes passed away at the age of 87 who defended Greek community for 30 years in the US Senate. The news of his death was announced by his son and U.S. Representative for Maryland John Sarbanes: “My father, Senator Paul S. Sarbanes, passed away peacefully this evening in Baltimore.”
Paul Sarbanes vehemently defended the issues of Greek community for 30 years in the US Senate. He had served in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, being one of the pioneers in the imposition of the US arms embargo after the invasion of Cyprus.
The Deputy Foreign Minister, Kostas Vlasis, posted a condolence message for the loss of the former US Senator Paul Sarbanes on Twitter.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of former US Senator Paul Sarbanes. He was one of the most emblematic personalities of the Greek Diaspora and with his work he contributed to the promotion of our national issues,” said Kostas Vlasis, “Sincere condolences to his family and relatives.”

Moreover, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, also sent their condolences.
