The first Muslim prayer at the Chora Church will be performed by the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on October 30, giving the “anointing” of the mosque to another monument of Christianity, as reported by sigmalive.com.
The doors of the Chora Church, which have been closed for two months due to its conversion into a mosque, will reopen on October 30, in order for the first Muslim prayer in 75 years to take place.
The famous mosaics and hagiographies will be covered, as in Hagia Sophia, with curtains. The Chora Church will be open at the same time as a mosque during prayer hours, as well as an attraction for tourists to visit.
The Chora Church was built in the 6th century BC. and was converted by the Ottomans into a mosque in the 16th century.
It has been operating as a museum since 1945, however, after the decision of the Council of State in 2019, it was turned into a mosque.
