Asked about the statements of the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said “Greece managed to bring the issue of differences with Turkey to the EU” and stated that “in fact they are the ones who constantly try to avoid sitting at the table.
For example, there was a case of a step forward between Turkey, Greece and Albania [and] unfortunately again they did not come to the table. They are doing politics by lying,” Erdoğan said.
As reported by kathimerini.gr, the Turkish President, in a press conference held a few minutes before his official visit to Azerbaijan, also referred to the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and stressed that “we are standing up. We will continue to support all the rights we have in the Eastern Mediterranean, as we will do with Northern Cyprus. There is no way we can back down on these issues. But if Greece, as a neighbor, behaves honestly, we will continue to be at the table.”
Erdoğan also said that no kind of sanctions imposed by the European Union against Turkey would affect the country significantly.
He even claimed that the EU “has never acted honestly or kept its promises.”
In addition, he said that the honest and sincere leaders of the EU are against the sanctions.
Erdoğan said also that he did not find “correct” the rhetoric and actions of the United States regarding the supply of Turkish weapons.
Finally, Erdoğan stated that he will have a discussion with US President-elect Joe Biden once he takes office.
