The Divine Hierarchal Liturgy, during which the solemn act of enthronement of His Holiness Porfirije into the holiest throne of the Archbishop of Pec, Metropolitan of Belgrade-Karlovci and Patriarch of Serbia will be celebrated, will be performed in the Belgrade’s Cathedral Church of Holy Archangel Michael, at 9 am, on the 19th of February, 2021.
The public will be informed in due time about the date of the solemn introduction into the throne of Serbian Patriarchs in the Patriarchate of Pec, the historical seat of the Primates of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Moreover, it is recalled that the Serbian Orthodox Church elected yesterday, on the 18th of February 2021, its new Patriarch, Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana. After the Liturgy, the Electoral Assembly chose three names which were put it in Gospel.
Immediately after the election, a thanksgiving service was officiated and “many years” was chanted to the Archbishop of Pec, Metropolitan of Belgrade-Karlovac and Serbian Patriarch Porfirije. Bells at Saint Sava Cathedral in the Vracar District of Belgrade rang a few minutes before 16:00 yesterday indicating that the 46th Patriarch of Serbia was elected. At the Liturgy, he said: “This Assembly is unique and historical because it is being held for the first time in the Cathedral of Saint Sava. May Saint Sava inspire us with his prayers to act for the benefit of the unity and catholicity of our church.”
It is noteworthy that late Serbian Patriarch Irinej reposed in the Lord of COVID-19 on the 20th of November 2020.
