President Donald Trump has called upon US governors to allow places of worship to reopen immediately despite the coronavirus epidemic. He also threatened to do so himself if they do not comply with his order.
“Today, I am identifying houses of worship -churches, synagogues and mosques- as essential places that provide essential services,” he told at a White House news conference. “I call upon governors to allow churches and places of worship to open right now,” he said.
“If they do not do it, I will override the governors,” Trump said, without giving further explanation. In the United States, the policy of reopening stores, schools, and services depends on each federal state.
“Some governors have deemed that liqueur stores and abortion clinics are essential but they have left out churches and other houses of worship. This is not right,” he added.
“I am correcting this injustice and calling houses of worship essential,” he said. In addition, he said that Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) would release guidelines for places of worship. “In America, we need more prayer, not less,” Donald Trump concluded.
