The Czech Republic has sent T-72 tanks and BVP-1/BMP armored personnel carriers to Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing sources familiar with Czech defense issues, confirming local media reports.
Czech state radio and television initially broadcast the mission, posting videos on Twitter of a train loaded with five tanks and five armored personnel carriers. According to the radio and television network, the mission was a gift agreed upon with NATO allies.
The source also confirmed that the tanks and armored personnel carriers had been sent, but declined to give further details, citing security concerns.
Defense Minister Yana Chernotsova told Parliament she would not confirm or deny details of Czech aid to Ukraine.
“I can only assure you that the Czech Republic… helps Ukraine as much as it can and will continue to help (supply) military equipment, light and heavy,” the minister said.
A Defense Ministry spokesman said Prague had sent nearly 1 billion Krona ($ 45 million) in military aid to Ukraine since the start of the war on February 24, but declined to give further details.
