The President of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, through Twitter, congratulated the new Hierarch: “The new Archbishop of America, Elpidoforos, is a brilliant hierarch, with special skills. I wish him success from the depth of my heart! Our best wishes!” tweeted Mr. Mitsotakis.

On her part, the President of KINAL (Movement for Change) Fofi Gennimata commented the election of the new Archbishop of America as follows: “Orthodoxy in America has its own new leader, Elpidoforos, who shall fulfill the high expectations of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for the future of the Archdiocese of America”. Mrs Gennimata continued that: “The election of the new Archbishop entails a further powerful symbolism, as the new Hierarch is well known for his longtime contribution to attempts for the reopening of the Theological School of Halki, a crucial issue for the Ecumenical Patriarchate and religious freedom worldwide. The indisputable skills of the new Archbishop of America and Ecumenical Patriarch’s trust in him are the strong foundations that guarantee the success of Elpidoforos’ new difficult task. As a matter of fact, today a new chapter begins for the Greek expatriates of America, the leading power of Greeks abroad. Axios (worthy)!”, concludes Mrs. Gennimata.
