In the midst of the health crisis, the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece received dozens of complaints from faithful all over Greece alleging the systematic online promotion of “The Watchtower” documents that belong to the Jehovah’s Witnesses. In its pastoral responsibility, the Church of Greece communicates the following to the pious Greek Orthodox people:
a) All the religious beliefs of the so-called “Jehovah’s Witnesses” are completely contrary to the Christian faith, while The Watchtower is internationally known for its false prophecies about the end of the world.
b) Regarding our homeland, while in the Greek Constitution clearly protects religious freedom, this is the same sect that in 1986 had launched, through its publications, a global defamation campaign presenting Greece as a country in which religious freedom is persecuted.
(c) In the midst of a global health crisis, we are reminded that the so-called “Jehovah’s Witnesses,” among other things, teach and spread a dangerous belief in human health, as they refuse blood transfusions, regardless of age, when necessary for critical conditions. In fact, this malicious and dangerous position is supposedly presented as a teaching of the Bible.
In the current difficult period, the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece urges the pious Orthodox faithful to pray fervently to the Lord to save the world from disease. Regarding the proselytism of various heretics, the Mother Church reminds her faithful Orthodox children of Saint Paul’s words: “Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way” (2 Thessalonians 2:3), “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith” (1 Corinthians 16:13).
