On Sunday, March 5, 2023, with the blessing of Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, Bishop Apostolos of Medeia, visited the Greek Orthodox Community of St. Nicholas in Greektown, Baltimore, MD, for the Sunday of Orthodoxy, which was commemorated by the traditional procession of icons with the youth of the parish. Following this, His Grace presided over a Doxology in commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Unification of the Dodecanese Islands to Greece.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the community held a celebratory event in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Unification of the Dodecanese Islands to Greece in the parish’s community center. His Grace Bishop Apostolos attended this beautiful celebration and conveyed the paternal love and blessings of His Eminence. His Grace spoke of the significance of the unification of the Dodecanese islands to Greece and the importance of each of the twelve islands. Also in attendance was the Ambassador of Greece to the United States, Her Excellency Alexandra Papadopoulou, as well as other dignitaries from Greece and Cyprus.
This beautiful celebration was organized under the spiritual guidance of the Rev. Protopresbyter George Economou, the proistamenos of the parish, the leadership of Mrs. Stamatia Ieromonahos, the president of the parish council, and Mr. George Komninos, Esq. Over 400 people were in attendance at the celebration which included performances from the parish’s youth, such as traditional folk dances from Dodecanese islands.
