Bishop Gideon of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate was asked to speak in the United Nations, after being deprived of his Ukrainian citizenship and forcefully expelled from his country.
According to his statements, Bishop Gideon said that he is being prepared to speak at the UN about his persecution by the Ukrainian leadership, noting that he is “100% citizen of Ukraine and this cannot be changed by anyone”.
Furthermore, Bishop Makarov Gideon said that “there is neither a court judgment, nor a presidential decree for his deportation. It is a purely political persecution against a cleric of the Orthodox Church”.
“I gave my passport as I had to. Then they told me: ‘You have no passport’. I responded: “How is that even possible? I just came from the USA with my passport!’ The next thing I know is that the lawyers came at the airport, but they did not let in. This amounts to political chaos”, said Bishop Gideon.
Bishop Makarov stressed the fact that “after this incident, I received a call from the US Congress, from politicians and journalists of CNN, Fox News and other major news networks all around the world. So I ended up in the USA as Ukrainian political refugee”.
Finally, Bishop Makarov argued that his deportation took place a day before his appearance at the Supreme Court of Ukraine, where he would prove that Verkhovna Rada had no right to appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarch without the consent of the Ukrainian people.
