The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada, on behalf of its clergy and faithful, extends its deepest sympathies to the British Royal Family on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
As it stresses in its announcement, “Queen Elizabeth was a unique and truly remarkable individual who leaves a lasting legacy. With humility and dedication, she exemplified the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ: “But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.” (Matthew 23:11)
As Canada’s longest-reigning Sovereign, Queen Elizabeth leaves an indelible mark, not only here, but across the Commonwealth and around the world.
As the world mourns her passing, let us be inspired by her sense of duty, love of family, and sacrifice for country — human attributes that have stood the test of time and are needed in society now more than ever.
Queen Elizabeth’s departure from the earthly kingdom also reminds us that what we ultimately seek here on earth is the heavenly city that is to come (cf. Hebrews 13:14).
We pray for the repose of the soul of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and during the annual Archdiocesan Memorial Service for the Benefactors of the Church in Canada to be held on September 10, 2022, her name will be remembered and commemorated.
May her memory be Eternal!
Her son Charles, who is a philhellene and has a special place in his heart for Mount Athos, is the new King and Britain’s monarch: King Charles III. Warm congratulations!”
