On Saturday, February 17, Archbishop Makarios of Australia welcomed Archbishop Damaskinos of Joppa at the headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese of Sydney.
Following Damaskinos’s visit to the Cathedral of the Annunciation, the two hierarchs held a private meeting at the Archdiocesan Office.
In a fraternal and constructive spirit, they engaged in a fruitful discussion on matters of mutual interest, ranging from issues related to Orthodoxy to the ongoing war situation in the Middle East region. In fact, Archbishop Makarios, on behalf of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, expressed the earnest desire for the cessation of bloodshed in the Holy Land, urging for peace to be restored and for the harmonious coexistence of all people in the region. The Hagiotaphite Hierarch, in response, conveyed the heartfelt wishes of Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem and expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality.
